Follow the '44Cup World Championship of Brunnen', in which the team of Daniel Calero, Calero Sailing Team of Lanzarote, managed to surprise by winning the initial windward leg of the second regatta this Thursday. And to prove that it was not a matter of luck, they repeated the feat in the third race. This Thursday began the fourth event in the impressive setting of Lake Uri, in Switzerland, with a fabulous thermal breeze of 15-17 knots that rose shortly after noon.

About half of the Calero Sailing Team is new to this World Championship in Brunnen, but the new crew includes several Spanish heavyweights, including Nicolás Rodríguez, Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo in the 470 class.

Nico Rodríguez commented on his performance that "we feel that the team is growing at all times. We had two very good roundings of the windward buoy, so we are getting there. We are still struggling with boat handling and some speed in the sterns, but we are improving more and more. Without a doubt, when it comes to boat knowledge, we don't have the same level of experience as the other teams, but we are getting closer to them."

In addition, about his two sensational windward legs, Rodríguez added that "we had two good starts: in one of them we led on the left side and in the other we were quite good in the geometry: we had a good strong shift to the left and, while the others overshot the lay line, we tacked at the right time, which gave us a great advantage.

“For this event we have made some changes, as the project is trying to develop and we want to see if we have a future. But our team is quite good: we will certainly have some good races.”

The skipper Daniel Calero also had a few words regarding what happened in the competition. "We were a bit nervous in the first race because we had many new people on board, but in reality, we sailed quite comfortably." "We need to correct many small things to be even more competitive. Any small mistake and you drop five places. But we are very happy, honestly."

“In the first race we went to the wrong side and paid for it. In the second race we led at the windward buoy, but then lost three positions, which was not good, but there we were. Then, in the last race, we did quite well and maintained our position until we received a penalty with Artemis Racing. But we trust the speed of the boat and the crew. We are improving more and more. Our goal is to reduce the number of problems."
