The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés; and the director of Club Santa Rosa, Félix Echeverría; together with the mayor and the sports councilor of the host municipality, Oswaldo Betancort and Echedey Eugenio, respectively, presented the first edition of the Ultrabike Santa Rosa Club race. The event took place at the sports facilities of Club Santa Rosa, on Avenida de Las Palmeras in Costa Teguise, which will in turn be the starting point and finish line for this competition, which will be held on September 7.

The I Ultrabike Santa Rosa Club is organized by the first Institution, through the Island Sports Service and the Tourism Board, and by Club Santa Rosa. This race, the first mountain bike race with an island category, also has the collaboration of the seven municipalities of the island. The organization also hopes that the cycling clubs of Lanzarote will participate, collaborate and get involved in this race.

In his presentation, the president of the Island Corporation assured that "the Cabildo's commitment to sports tourism and internationally renowned events is not new." San Ginés considered that this initiative is "a complete success, because it is committed to the bicycle segment, in this case mountain biking" and he hoped that it would soon reach an "international dimension, which is what it deserves."

The municipal authorities of Teguise agreed in their thanks to the Santa Rosa Sports Club for the organization of this race and "its commitment to this type of mountain bike competition, different, which will travel along dirt tracks and roads through the different and spectacular landscapes offered by the island of Lanzarote."

Two modalities

For his part, the director of the Santa Rosa Sports Club explained in general terms the details of this race. "The Ultrabike Santa Rosa Club is a race with two levels of competition. The Ultra modality, with 112 kilometers of route, passes through towns such as Guatiza and Mala, La Villa, Caleta de Famara, Tinajo, Tías, Uga, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Honda and Arrecife and will have an estimated duration of five hours," he said. The other modality, the Bike, of 53 kilometers, will only run through the municipalities of Teguise and Haría. There will be a single start for the two categories, at 10:00 a.m.

"For security reasons and because it is a new race, participation has been limited to 300 places in total. The registration period is open until August 26, if the quota has not already been filled," he said. Registration can be formalized  through the club link.
