CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife visited Balonmano Salud Tenerife on Saturday afternoon, a match that pitted the Lanzarote team against the bottom team in the category. The San José Obrero players traveled to Tenerife without any complacency, with the aim of achieving victory and not losing sight of the top-ranked teams. The Lanzarote team passed the test with flying colors and added a comfortable victory by 20 to 38.
The first minutes of the match were tentative, with two teams studying each other on the court. The exchange of goals was common in these early stages of the match, although soon CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife began to pull away on the scoreboard. The visitors achieved a 0-3 run with goals from Gema Trujillo, Nabila de Ganzo, and Bruna Gonçalvez, establishing a 2-5 lead.
After the halfway point of the first half, CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife doubled their rival's score, thanks to another 0-3 run. Balonmano Salud Tenerife was not willing to give the rival so many opportunities, getting back into the game with a 4-0 run, taking advantage of the defensive weaknesses the rival was offering.
The reaction of the Lanzarote team was not long in coming, increasing the difference to three goals with ten minutes left until halftime. The coach of Salud Tenerife requested a timeout to stop the visitors' reaction. After the instructions from the bench, CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife continued to increase the difference, ending the first half with a 0-4 run with goals from Bruna Gonçalvez, Lorena Montilla, Neus Llorens, and Gema Trujillo (10-17).
CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife sealed the match quickly at the start of the second half. The period began with a 0-7 run in favor of the Lanzarote team in the first six minutes, forcing the home team's coach to call another timeout. Sisters Lorena and Natalia Montilla continued to increase the difference after the timeout, putting the score at 10-26.
The large difference reflected on the scoreboard allowed David Betancort to give minutes to all the players and not have to force the return to the court of the full-back Nagore Saenz. Minutes that were used by the wingers Acerina Martín and Paula Robayna to score several goals, and especially to work at full capacity in defensive tasks.
Until the end of the match, the differences were maintained, and CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife ended up winning 20-38 against Balonmano Salud Tenerife. A victory with which the Lanzarote team continues in fourth place in the standings. Next Saturday they host Rodríguez Cleba León, leader of the category, a match that will be played from 7:30 p.m. in the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe pavilion.
