The history of Canarian wrestling is extensive and the clubs make an extraordinary effort to ensure that the historical memory of the vernacular sport in Lanzarote is not forgotten. Last Thursday, the Tinajo Wrestling Club wanted to remember several of the wrestlers who have marked the history of the club in recent decades. Censo "Pollo de la Vegueta", Guillermo Padrón, Juan Jesús Hernández and Manolo Tavío, were the four historical wrestlers who received a well-deserved tribute.

Before the start of the wrestling match between CL Tinajo and CL Tías, corresponding to the ninth day of the Lanzarote Island Canarian Wrestling Tournament, the board of directors of CL Tinajo paid tribute to several wrestlers who are part of the club's history. One of the walls of the Tinajo Municipal Arena has, since this Thursday, a mural made by Samuel Hernández Aparicio, which includes the image of the four honored wrestlers.

CL Tinajo honored Censo "Pollo de la Vegueta", Guillermo Padrón, Juan Jesús Hernández and Manolo Tavío. The four historical wrestlers received a gift from the directors of CL Tinajo and, above all, the applause of an audience that gathered in the stands of the Tinajo Municipal Arena. The image of the four wrestlers will remain in the memory in the mural that presides over one of the walls of the arena.

Censo "Pollo de la Vegueta" was a mainstay of CL Tinajo in the 60s. Hip and doodle were some of the favorite tricks of this wrestler who came to fight in Aaiún (Africa). Guillermo Padrón defended the colors of CL Tinajo in the 70s and his preferred techniques were crouching and viradilla. Juan Jesús Hernández was one of the great wrestlers of CL Tinajo in the 80s. A wrestler of pure courage and great mainstays fell at the hands of this wrestler. And Manolo Tavío spent more than 20 years defending the CL Tinajo shirt and was best known as Pollo de "Villanueva".
