Zonzamas returned to Lanzarote empty-handed after being defeated by CB Morvedre, one of the most powerful teams in the category. The intense local defense prevented the batateras from attacking clearly.
Patro Barambio's team was able to compete face to face against the Valencians, with the red-and-black team even being the first to take the lead on the scoreboard. But already in the first section of the match it could be read that the victory was achieved in defensive effectiveness, where the local team was better.
The match was characterized by being very physical, with very long attacks due to the tough defenses in which continuous infractions were charged. So much so that the first ten minutes were up and the score showed a 3-3 tie.
The locals were eager to resume the competition after a month of waiting, after the postponement of three of their matches due to Shandy Barbosa's call-up to the European Championship. The Valencians were much more mobile with the ball, exploiting the tactical board with numerous crosses and overlaps to confuse a red-and-black defense that was very attentive to the danger of the Spanish international.
The Lanzarote players were also quite solid at the back, but the speed of the locals ended up opening gaps on the wings and in the center, in the 6-meter zone. So much so that the outstanding player of the match would end up being the rival pivot Andrea González, in contrast to what could be expected from Barbosa, the best player in this category.
The batateras also suffered in attack, but they solved it with insistence on vertical trajectories. The crossbar prevented Brenda Roger, Gleinys Reyes and Marta Cuenca from coming back on the scoreboard, moments that BM Morvedre took advantage of to obtain their first partials in favor, placing themselves two goals ahead in the first quarter of an hour (6-4).
The Valencians took control of the scoreboard, but not of the match, which was still quite open despite the locals showing their speed also playing on the counterattack and counterattack. The interventions of Susi Sánchez and a goal in the second wave by Berenice Frelier put the score at the minimum (7-6) in the twentieth minute.
It was then that the local goalkeeper appeared, who was especially comfortable with the shots in the lower zone, from where she saved on more than one occasion to reach halftime with a score of 12 to 10.
The options were more than clear, but the second half did not come in the best way for the interests of the batatero team. To the losses of the ball was added an early and doubtful exclusion that left the Lanzarote team in numerical inferiority when trying to reverse the score. The referees did not have a great afternoon, with some unfortunate decisions and receiving numerous complaints from both benches.
The Lanzarote players were less agile in static attack, abusing the dribble and losing speed against a defense that made the red-and-black players work hard if they wanted to try to overcome it. The same thing happened in their own area, but with the difference that Morvedre managed to be faster, finding the pivot during the defensive transitions, from where goals or maximum penalties came.
The Valencians were moving away on the scoreboard, so they could afford the subsequent exchange of blows in which CB Zonzamas responded by scoring with each local goal, being at 19-14 with fifteen minutes left to conclude the match.
The dynamic would be the same until the end of the match, where Patro Barambio's players fought to try to get back into the match and found it very difficult to overcome the defensive block of CB Morvedre, although little by little they managed to do so, reducing the difference to three goals (23-20) when the clock marked the twentieth minute of the second half.
But the locals were not going to let the opportunity to score at home pass and waste the advantage gained, so they played without taking risks, with the clock in their favor and maintaining defensive solidity to listen to the final whistle with the score at 27-23.
This ended the streak of points for a Zonzamas that is already thinking about the next match, at home and against Errece Almassora Balonmano, to try to recover the good dynamic and recover from a defeat that will serve to polish details for the rest of the league days.
