The batatero team takes a very important step, consolidating itself in the comfortable part of the table. Saturday's victory in their fort, the Las Palmeras municipal pavilion, against Hanbol Sant Quirze, keeps CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote in fifth place with 15 points, just five points behind the leadership currently held by BM Morvedre.
Despite the wide final result, the Catalan team made things difficult for the rojinegras, leaving a very even first half and forcing Patro Barambio's team to put on their work clothes.
Both teams managed to reach the rival area, finishing in a shot, but it was Handbol Sant Quirze who had the most difficulty finding the rival net thanks to the good rojinegro defensive work in 5:1.
But a very effective CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote in attack began to suffer with the outside shot and the connection with the rival pivot, with the Catalans achieving a 3-3 tie before the first ten minutes of the match were up.
The rojinegra first line was also finding in Lucía Chacón the best option to overcome the visiting defense, although it did not manage to break away on the scoreboard. So much so that the Catalans came to turn the game around, putting 4-5 on the scoreboard.
We would have to wait until the halfway point of the first half for Mary Sánchez to resolve, placing CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote back on top (8-7). The rojinegra left winger would find the net again
consecutively for two more possessions to increase the locals' lead to 10-8.
The visitors maintained their options through the outside shot. This is how they tied and even came back, leaving 10-11 on the scoreboard with ten minutes left until halftime. Although Ingrid Roger, Gleinys Reyes and Jana Pinilla would return control thanks also to the interventions of Susi Sánchez under the posts with which the comeback was found (13-11).
The last five minutes of this time served for CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote to break away from a first half that had been quite even, with the whistle sounding for halftime with a score of 17-12.
The ball was resumed with a very rough match, in which it took more than five minutes to see the first goal of the second half. Handbol Sant Quirze transformed a penalty to reduce the local advantage to four goals. But the locals maintained their superiority, being more solid in defense, without giving the Catalans the ability to surprise.
The second half was controlled by the batateras, who knew how to carry the weight of the match and not get caught up in the rival's haste, maintaining their four-goal lead (24-20) in the last quarter of an hour, even in numerical inferiority after the only exclusion they would suffer in the match.
The opposite happened with the Catalans, whose orderly local defense disarmed them in attack, falling into unforced errors and seeing how Ana Martín's blocks ended their options.
This led to a monologue by some locals who liked to counterattack, extending the favorable partial for the rojinegras that would reach 32-25 with the final whistle.
CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote joins the second league round with force, awaiting the complicated exit of the next day on February 11 against Lobas Global Atac Oviedo in the Florida Arena municipal sports center.
