Tribute to Nabila de Ganzo

She has grown up in the club of the Titerroy neighborhood, and within the San José Obrero Handball Club she has been a player, monitor, coach, official and even a manager, performing each of these tasks with the greatest passion. At the conclusion of last season, and after much deliberation, Nabila de Ganzo decided to leave the active practice of handball and join the coaching staff of the first women's team. Last Saturday, the eternal captain of CB San José Obrero received a well-deserved tribute at the Titerroy Municipal Pavilion.

Her teammates and friends had kept secret everything that was going to happen at the end of the CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife match against Salma Adesal Córdoba. For days they had been preparing the surprise that Nabila de Ganzo was going to receive, a player who has developed most of her sports career in the ranks of San José Obrero, and who also defended the shirts of CB Puerto del Carmen and CB Zonzamas in the national category.

Nabila de Ganzo received a San José Obrero jersey with the number 9, the number she has always worn in her time at the club in the Titerroy neighborhood and with the legend "Eternal Captain". The "Ultra Pepe" Fan Club, which recently reappeared, presented her with a plaque in gratitude for her work, and the president of the club, Yomaique Martín, presented her with a canvas with her photograph. There was no shortage of the bouquet of flowers and the details of people who at some point have shared a dressing room or playing field with Nabila.

Whenever CB San José Obrero has had a women's team, Nabila de Ganzo has been part of its squad, returning as a player in the 2017/2018 season and the campaign in which promotion to the national category was achieved. The tribute was attended by some of those who have been her coaches in other teams, such as Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Santana or Miguel Ángel Lemes, and above all, many of the people who at some point have shared a dressing room or playing field.

In these last six seasons, Nabila de Ganzo played 154 official matches with San José Obrero in the national category; 22 in the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola, 44 in the División de Honor Oro, 75 in the División de Honor Plata, 8 in the promotion phase to Iberdrola and 5 in the Copa de la Reina. Matches in which she scored a total of 336 goals.

One of the emblematic players of women's handball on the island of Lanzarote leaves the playing fields, at least for the moment, although her determination and courage will last over time, and hallmarks that she now tries to transmit to the base players that she trains every afternoon. Nabila de Ganzo will always be the eternal captain of the San José Obrero Handball Club.
