Setback for CB Puerto del Carmen in one of the five finals remaining to finish the season and put the icing on an extraordinary campaign. The bad first half played against Logroño Sporting La Rioja, deprived the Tiñoseras of achieving a better result against a direct rival in the fight for the promotion play-off. The defense did not work, the attack stalled and the goal did not stop, all that came together in a first half to forget by CB Puerto del Carmen. In the second half, the Tiñoseras showed their mettle, pride and sacrifice, and were about to turn the score around. The defeat by 28 to 30 against Logroño Sporting La Rioja, makes them lose the second place, position currently occupied by the Riojan team.

The match began with a very stiff Puerto del Carmen, not showing the ease they have had throughout the season. Logroño Sporting La Rioja with great physical potential would begin to mark the first differences on the scoreboard, with Nagore Saénz having great success in the outside shot. The scoreboard reflected a 3 to 6 in favor of the Riojan team in the 9th minute of the match, having to ask Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Santana for the first timeout of the match.

The game of Puerto del Carmen did not improve after the timeout, conceding a partial of 1 to 4 in the following five minutes and allowing the visitors to place themselves with a six-goal advantage on the scoreboard. Logroño Sporting La Rioja came to have a seven-goal advantage in the first half of the match. Their game was based on a strong defense, pressing the ball circulation so that it did not reach the wings and a very effective attack in outside shots and from the pivot position.

CB Puerto del Carmen was not having its day. In defense they were giving many facilities, in attack they were stuck and in goal they were not successful in the opponent's outside shot. In addition, Puerto del Carmen was not able to take advantage of several inferiorities of the opponent in the first half and missed up to three seven-meter shots. With this panorama, the half-time of the match was reached with the score of 10 to 16.

In the second half, CB Puerto del Carmen would offer its best version. Hurt by the score of the first half, the Tiñoseras took out their mettle, sacrifice and pride and were gradually reducing the differences. In the first minutes of the second half they missed two more seven-meter shots and it seemed that it was not the most appropriate day to take advantage of the numerous maximum penalties that the Riojan team was committing.

With a 3-0 partial, Puerto del Carmen was only three goals away from Logroño Sporting La Rioja and the visiting coach was forced to ask for a timeout. Marta Olarte was in charge of stopping the good dynamics of Puerto del Carmen and with a powerful shot she cooled the public again. The visiting team played the second half with a lot of calm, bordering on passive in each of their attacks. Puerto del Carmen played with a 4:2 defense, pressing the ball circulation of the rivals.

In the middle of the second half, Puerto del Carmen managed to reduce the differences to two goals. María Cedrés, Rosa Álvarez and Atteneri Morales, had taken the reins of the attack of Puerto del Carmen in this second half. Nereida Montelongo from the pivot offered a great job, although sometimes she was well defended.

As it happened in the first half, the Tiñoseras were unable to take advantage of the numerical inferiorities of the opponent. In the 20th minute, Zulema González and Ana Moreno were excluded. With two more players on the court, there were precipitations in attack and facilities in defense. When they were having the worst time, Logroño Sporting La Rioja managed to increase the differences and with a five-goal lead they almost sentenced the match.

In the final stretch, CB Puerto del Carmen only managed to make up the result and the end of the match was reached with the score of 28 to 30. With this defeat, CB Puerto del Carmen gives the second position to Logroño Sporting La Rioja, although the Tiñoseras continue to depend on themselves. Puerto del Carmen has one game less, a match that they will recover next Saturday facing Camargo Ferroatlantica, a team that occupies the fourth place in the standings.
