Unlike previous matches, the CB Lanzarote Zonzamas showed a good image on Saturday afternoon against one of the "big boys" of the category. The Lanzarote team stood up to Vicar Goya, second in the category, and fought until the final minutes to add a positive result against the Andalusians. The greater definition in attack of Vicar Gota, tilted the match in favor of the visiting team.
In terms of confidence, the match started in the best way for the interests of CB Lanzarote Zonzamas. Nabila Harchaouin transformed the first attack of the Lanzarote team into a goal, putting them ahead on the scoreboard. The referees set the bar very high, and in the first defensive action of Zonzamas they excluded María de León. It is true that from that moment on they allowed a lot, especially in the second half, to the defenders of Vicar Goya.
The Andalusians took advantage of the numerical inferiority to achieve a 0-3 partial, with María José Gutiérrez being the author of the three goals. CB Lanzarote Zonzamas did not lose their cool on the court, being paused in each of their attacks and trying to counteract the 6:0 defense that Vicar Goya put on the court. Zonzamas had several options to tie the match, not being successful in attack.
A 0-2 partial with three minutes left in the first half, put the biggest difference on the scoreboard. Vicar Goya obtained a three-goal lead (6-9), which caused Miguel Ángel Lemes' timeout. After the instructions from the bench, a steal in defense and a counterattack culminated by María José Gutiérrez put the difference at four goals. At halftime the score was 8-11.
The second half developed under the same script. It was Vicar Goya who took the initiative on the scoreboard and CB Lanzarote Zonzamas did not lose face in the match. The Andalusians once again enjoyed a four-goal lead in this second half, when thirteen minutes of the match had been played (12-16).
The visitors in this second half played on many occasions with a 3:3 defense, which forced a greater circulation in attack of Zonzamas and greater mobility of its attacking players. Two goals from Nabila Harchaouin reduced the differences to a single goal (16-17), with eight minutes remaining in the match.
María José Gutiérrez, the best player of Vicar Goya in this match, was in charge of breaking the partial and putting her team back with a two-goal advantage. To this must be added the exclusion of Diana García, having to play the Lanzarote team in numerical inferiority for two minutes. The Alicante team reopened the gap on the scoreboard with goals from María José Gutiérrez (2) and Andrea Piñero.
The emotion was maintained until the end of the match. CB Lanzarote Zonzamas had the opportunity to get within a single goal of difference and that would have put the fear into the Alicante team. Sara de León's powerful shot was stopped by goalkeeper María Dolores González and in the next play Andrea Piñero scored the goal that sealed the victory for the Andalusians.
Victory for Vicar Goya by 19 to 22 against CB Lanzarote Zonzamas, with the Lanzarote team giving a good image despite the defeat. Zonzamas continues to be in the penultimate place in the standings, tied on points with UCAM Murcia. The competition takes a week off, resuming on December 4 with the trip to Madrid to face CB Getasur.
