CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen has started the year as it had finished the previous year, winning against the second-placed team, Balonmano Gijón. The victory at the Municipal Pavilion La Tejerona in the Asturian capital has been the stage where the Tiñoseras have won against the locals (27-35) in a match corresponding to the fifteenth day of Group A of the Women's Silver Honor Division.

The match started with doubts in both squads. The locals perhaps missing their top scorer after spraining an ankle in training during the week and remembering the match in Lanzarote, and the Conejeras missing the Canarian sun and also facing last-minute absences, including that of their top scorer, Fernanda Insfran.

Once the ice of the first match of the year was broken, the visitors gained a certain advantage that they held for a large part of the first half (11-12, min. 20). The Asturians did not give up and managed to tie the match a few minutes later (14-14, min. 25). It was going to be a mirage for Ángel Eduardo Gulin's team as they reached halftime with an advantage for Puerto del Carmen (15-18), an advantage that they would not relinquish for the rest of the match.

Elena Capelastegui was the top scorer among the locals in the absence of her usual injured machine gun, Saray Trabanco, with six goals. In the Tiñoseras ranks, also without their top scorer Fernanda Insfran, Lucía Olivier became the top Canarian offensive threat with seven goals, well accompanied in the attack by the six goals of Delyne Leyva or the five goals of Beatriz Betancor and Mónica Cabrera.

With 11 matchdays remaining, Juanmi Pérez's team remains at the top of the group with 28 points, followed by Grupo CHR Hand Vall Valladolid with 21 and AD Carballal Balonmano with 19. The hitherto second-placed team, Balonmano Gijón, has fallen to fourth position after losing to the Tiñoseras, remaining with 19 points in their locker.

For the Tiñosero coach, Juanmi Pérez, “we are quite happy because we have won a match in a pavilion that is complicated, because of how Gijón plays and because they were second in the table, but we have won the match. We have had quite a few last-minute absences and that is why it has been a bit difficult for us to get into the match, but we have been able to set the speed we have during the match and, in the end, Gijón has not been able to keep up with our pace. In general terms, I am happy, the team is doing very well with the daily work and they deserve applause for today's work, we are very happy to go to Lanzarote,” concluded the Tiñosero coach.

Puerto del Carmen receives the visit in the sixteenth league matchday, on Saturday, January 21, starting at 6:00 p.m., from Rubensa Balonmano Porriño, a team that is sixth after losing at home to Rocasa (27-34) and that in the first round of the competition lost as a local against the Tiñoseras (24-26).
