Bitter defeat experienced yesterday in the Macarena Aguilar Pavilion of Ciudad Real against Vino Doña Berenguela BM Bolaños. Historic debut of the Lanzarote team in the Copa de S.M. La Reina that did not materialize with a good result, falling defeated by 28 to 27. CB Zonzamas played away with their heads in the league match against a direct rival next Saturday, but the good feelings yesterday afternoon and a difference in favor of up to seven goals, made us think that it was the opportune moment to achieve that first victory that would clear the pressure on the red and blacks.
The script of the match followed the line of what has been going on this season. Great display in attack by the 'batateras', with a good defensive positioning that makes them control the match at times. This time Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote even took the initiative in almost the entire match, totally dominating the first half.
But BM Bolaños had already taken the lead in attitude. The locals, at home, with their fans and especially playing without looking at the scoreboard, knew how to leave the ball in the court of those who could initially be considered as favorites, putting even more pressure on a less fresh CB Zonzamas but who had responded quite well. Without shrinking at any time of the match, not even when they were behind on the scoreboard, the green and blacks managed to finish most of their attacks. Almost without losses of possession, the Ciudad Real team had the ability to look for and find the shot, with better or worse success, but they finished the attack. Great 6:0 defense that Juan Rivera proposed and that the locals found it difficult to overcome, accompanied by a very good performance by Ana Martín under the posts.
The girls led by Juan Miguel Fernández continued with the work overalls with a defense also in 6:0 quite advanced. The Lanzarote team took advantage of the gaps, looking for the pivot line and with good shots from the wings. The counterattacks came out and the individual electricity to which they have us accustomed also. There was some unforced error, but the great work in defensive tasks gave margin for the failure, at least until the second half, reaching the break with a 15-18 that tasted little.
Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote returned from the break just as forceful. For their part, the locals had managed to cut distances on the scoreboard but, far from getting nervous, they continued with the same dynamic: few losses and finishing with a shot. In numerous attacks Fernández risked attacking with one more player leaving the goal empty, which would become a too appetizing whim for the Lanzarote team, with quick shots from their half of the court without effectiveness.
The rotations in Juan Rivera's girls made all the players connect, who maintained their margin of goals as they could, although soon he had to put the most usual ones. Again, the main enemy of the Lanzarote team was also dressed in red and black. With attacks too hasty, shots facing the goal quite predictable, passes to the pivot that were cut or unforced errors, the lost possessions were chained at the same time as the goals of the opponent who was now betting on a 5:1 defense that was working, with an outstanding performance of their goalkeeper.
In this second part the locals put a plus to their attack that until now they had not exploited so much. The outside shots of Carmen Arroyo and Danae Miranda caught the Lanzarote defense off guard. Key moment seven minutes from the end, when with only one goal advantage a possible blow in attack by Arroyo becomes a penalty against that means the tie at 25. Oxygen and moral bomb for Bolaños, even more when only a minute and a half later a ball cut means a counterattack that would put the locals ahead for the first time on the scoreboard.
There were five minutes left and the finishing touch to the match was a more than discussed exclusion to Gleynes Reyes when she was fighting for a divided ball. With numerical inferiority the frustration of the locals did nothing but increase. BM Bolaños pulled of head and slept the ball. Little more could be done and the final whistle sounded with 28-27.
CB Zonzamas only has to arrive stronger if possible this Saturday in their match also away against a direct rival such as BM Zuazo. It is in their hand to take advantage of the experience of the Copa de La Reina as a turning point, which will serve to correct those small technical errors, but especially to temper psychologically, without having to feel that pressure to get a victory that they always have at hand and that will arrive when it has to arrive.
