Aloe Plus Lanzarote Conejero was defeated this weekend against the co-leader of the category, Inmobiliaria Gálvez Santa Cruz (68-66) in a match held at the Municipal Pavilion of La Salud in Santa Cruz de Tenerife corresponding to the fifteenth day of Group A of the Canarian Autonomous League.
The orange team had it on the buzzer, but luck eluded them on this occasion. The Arrecife team started the match well, taking the first quarter with some solvency (20-14).
The locals changed the landscape in the second partial and with an eleven-point lead reached the break five points up (36-31). Javier Cabello's team managed to balance the scales in the third quarter, tied at seventeen points. Good start for the "duck nation" in the definitive quarter with a zero-ten partial. The locals reacted and with two seconds left they took the lead. Conejero could do nothing.
With three days left for the end of the regular league, the Conejero team, which only has two games left to play, is placed fifth with twenty-one points and a balance of eight wins and six losses, still with options to get into the promotion playoff. Inmobiliaria Gálvez Santa Cruz is second, tied with leader Capross Ciudad de Tacoronte, both with twenty-four points.
Jordan Hairston became the top scorer of the match and for the Arrecife team with thirty-four points, twenty-nine in valuation and an almost immaculate fourteen of sixteen in free throws. In the Tenerife team, in a much more choral offensive performance, two players stood out with ten points, Marvin Sosa and José Francisco Moure.
At the end of the match, the coach of Aloe Plus Lanzarote Conejero, Javier Cabello, stated that "it has been a very complicated match. The truth is that we managed not to lose face at any time. We knew that they were a very strong rival and a good test for a possible crossing in the final eight. We went out with the mentality of wanting to take the match despite being only with eight players. We achieved incredible things and, when Santa Cruz was plugged in and they were leaving us, we knew how to react until we tied the match. We had the last ball that could take us to overtime, but destiny, capricious, did not want to be on our side. Now we have two battles ahead of us that we have to go to face to face. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage people to come to the Sports City on Saturday as it is the last match at home and a key match", concluded the orange technical director.
In the sixteenth matchday, Aloe Plus Lanzarote Conejero plays its last match as a local in the regular phase. It receives next March 22, at 4:00 p.m., at the Pavilion of the Sports City of Lanzarote, Colegio Tacoronte, a team that is in third position in the standings with twenty-two points, one point more than the Arrecife team.
