The World Rally Championship arrives in Spain this week with the celebration of a new edition of the RACC Spain-Catalonia Rally. A race that will feature the participation of a team from the island of Lanzarote, with Alexis Romedo in charge of representing Lanzarote's motorsport in the World Rally Championship race. Alexis Romero hopes to play a good role and improve the position achieved in the 2015 season.
Alexis Romero will have a Peugeot 208 R2 from the Raceseven team in the RACC Spain-Catalonia Rally and will have Martín Domínguez as co-pilot. This is the second participation of this team in a World Rally Championship rally, after having been in the 2015 edition and with very good sensations for both driver and co-pilot. On that occasion they occupied the 42nd position overall.
The Lanzarote driver is very excited and eager to enjoy the rally. Alexis Romero comments that "coming back to a World Rally Championship event has taken a very big personal sacrifice, so from now on I just want to enjoy the four days of racing and get up to speed as soon as I can". Regarding the objectives set for this world event, Romero assures that "the objective is to finish the race as high as possible, so that our sponsors see rewarded the bet they have made on us".
Co-pilot Martín Domínguez thanks "Alexis Romero for the opportunity he gave me back in 1999 to get into a rally car for the first time". It will be his last race as a co-pilot, for which he points out that "I think the time has come to get out of a racing car, and how not! in a race in our country such as the Rally de Cataluña". "I have to thank my family who have been able to understand what it has been for me to practice this sport, which I also recognize that they have sometimes had a bad time when I have had accidents and how not to the driver Alexis Romero", adds the co-pilot.
The 54th edition of the RACC Spain-Catalonia Rally will be one of the most interesting of recent seasons, taking place from October 25 to 28, with a route of 1,495 kilometers, of which 331.58 are timed stages.
It will be the penultimate round of the World Rally Championship, with a total of 18 timed stages spread across the Costa Dorada, Salou and Port Aventura. On Thursday night the start will take place in Barcelona.
The RACC Spain-Catalonia Rally will feature the participation of Sebastien Loeb at the controls of a Citroën C3 WRC, this being his first participation of the season in a World Championship rally.
Also noteworthy is the presence of Ken Block with a Ford Fiesta WRC, king of acrobatics at the wheel and figure of the Global Rallycross. In addition, all those teams that are completing the World Rally Championship and are looking for the necessary points in Catalonia to be as high as possible in the final classification.
