Alexis Romero, from Lanzarote, a symbol of the competitive spirit of the Canary Islands in national motorsport, is resuming his journey in the raids with a major goal: to participate in the 2027 Dakar Rally, the most demanding and prestigious event in the world of motorsports.
### A benchmark of motorsports in Lanzarote
With a career marked by consistency, talent, and a passion for rallying, Romero continues to solidify his name in Spanish motorsport, proudly representing Lanzarote and the archipelago in high-level competitions.
His beginnings date back to the island championship, where he was proclaimed Lanzarote Rally Champion in 2010, demonstrating his technical mastery and outstanding determination.
### Heading to the Desert: Return to Raids
After several years focused on rallying, Alexis Romero returns to the raid discipline with the Herrador Motorsport team, making his debut in a race with true Dakar DNA: the Addax Rally, held in the Merzouga desert (Morocco).
More than 1,300 kilometers of special stages spread over seven days will make this event the perfect setting for the driver to gain experience in dunes and desert terrain.
### Road to Dakar 2027
His return is not improvised. In 2019, he had already debuted in the Baja España Aragón, initiating his contact with Dakar-type events.
Now, with a long-term work plan, Romero sets his sights on January 2027. To this end, he will have Dani Mesa as his co-driver, an experienced navigator with previous participation in the Dakar, whose contribution in navigation and strategy will be key.
### "Lanzarote in the Dakar": an island project
The new project, named "Lanzarote in the Dakar", is made up entirely of drivers and technicians from the island, all of them passionate about off-road racing.
The team has already begun its preparation with tests in Malaga, where they have worked extensively with the vehicle that will accompany them on their first great African adventure: a HERRATOR INSANE T3, an agile, powerful vehicle prepared for the extreme conditions of the desert.
“Competing in raids again is fulfilling a dream and facing a new challenge. We want to take the name of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands to Dakar, with work, humility, and a lot of passion,” says Alexis Romero.
