Alexy Perdomo from Lanzarote and Juan José Foulquié from Almeria completed the men's podium, and Lucía Funes and Diana de la Rosa from Tenerife completed the women's podium.

Alejandro Santamaría, with an accumulated time of 3:32:21, and Tessa Kortekaas (4:4:23), were proclaimed this Sunday in La Graciosa winners of the VIII 8th Island Challenge, organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Insular Sports Service, with the collaboration of the Teguise City Council, by winning the 31-kilometer Trail with a time of 2:05:03 and 2:29:17, respectively.

The Madrid native thus adds his third Challenge, after winning in the last edition and in 2016, while the Dutch woman based in Lanzarote wins this competition for the first time, which consists of two events, the 31-kilometer Trail, which had 143 participants, and the Cross Triathlon held this Saturday and in which you had to complete one kilometer swimming, twenty by mountain bike and six running cross-country.

Alexy Perdomo (3:38:13) and Juan José Foulquié (3:42:39) completed the Challenge podium in the men's category. The Lanzarote native was third in the Trail with a time of 2:06:41, while the Almeria native based in Fuerteventura was second with 2:06:17.

In the women's category, the Tenerife natives Lucía Funes (4:40:30) Diana de la Rosa (4:42:39) occupied the second and third place of the VIII 8th Island Challenge. Both also completed the podium in the 31-kilometer Trail, with the positions interchanged but with an identical record of 2:48:47.

 

Winners of the 20 and 8 kilometer Trails 


On the second day of the Challenge, the 20-kilometer Trails were also held, which had 54 participants and had Rubén Rodríguez (1:24.10) and Cristina Díaz (2:01:26) as winners; and 8 kilometers, in which Adrián Hernández (31:15) and María Jesús Díez (42:57) prevailed.

Second and third classified in the 20 kilometers were David Arbelo (1:24:37) and Elías Estévez (1:26:17); and in the 8 kilometers Jorge Torres (31:16) and Francisco Javier Hernández (32:36). In the women's category, Raquel Rodríguez (2:04:40) and Lourdes Alonso (2:08:48) completed the podium of the 20-kilometer Trail. María del Carmen del Pazo (44:29) and Beatrice Lipari (45:02) completed the 8-kilometer Trail.

The awards ceremony was attended by the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, and the island councilor for Sports, Lorenzo Reyes, one of the 79 participants in the 8-kilometer Trail in which the councilor of the first Island Corporation, Marcos Bergaz, also took part. Alicia Páez, councilor of Teguise and local mayor of La Graciosa, the eighth Canary Island, was also present at the awards ceremony.
