The world of sports has once again suffered a new altercation, this time in a handball match played last Saturday, February 22, between CB San José Obrero and Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto at the Titerroy Pavilion in Arrecife.
According to the match report, after the end of the first half, before the referees went to the locker room, an individual waited for the referees to ask them for explanations about some decisions during the match.
The referees "asked him to leave, but the individual continued to insist and followed them to the entrance of the locker rooms." Both were not supported by anyone on their way to the locker rooms, and after receiving no response, the boy "raised his voice, arguing that 'he was a friend of the vice president' and that 'they would find out'."
The report states that both referees "asked the field delegate to prevent any spectator from approaching them, but the delegate replied that 'he couldn't do anything because that person is from the club'."
The tension increased when, in the 59:55 minute, after an arbitration decision to sanction with a free throw and exclusion. At that moment, the threats and insults from a group of CB San José Obrero fans began, such as "you daughters of bitches, come outside and we'll kill you," "you're not going to get out of here alive, you bitches," or "we should have killed you in Soria."
Due to these threats, which are recorded in the report, the referees decided to stop the match and asked the field delegate to "remove those fans so that the match could continue," but he said that "he couldn't do anything." Two players from the local team intervened to try to calm the situation.
When the match ended, the coaches of both teams recommended that the referees not leave the center of the court "because there was a large group of fans insulting them." After following the recommendation, both went back to the field delegate, asking him to take action, but he replied that "you are referees, you have to put up with this because it is your job."
Finally, the referees waited eight minutes to be able to leave the central area of the court and for the area to be cleared so they could go to the locker room. Almost half an hour later, both signed the report.
