True to its appointment, a new edition of the IES Yaiza Triathlon arrives. A sports event of a school nature that will bring together more than a thousand young people from all the educational centers on the island of Lanzarote. The event will be from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, and more than 250 teams will participate in the event, made up of a maximum of four students, and 60 young people who will complete the triathlon individually.

The seventeenth edition of the IES Yaiza Triathlon will have the motto "Overcome your own challenge". 1,053 young people will spare no effort to reach the finish line and honor the motto of this year's event. All secondary schools in Lanzarote will participate, including the CEO Aldecoa of La Graciosa. In addition, more than 400 students will collaborate in the organizational tasks of the event.

The number of participants continues to grow every year and once again all expectations have been exceeded. The IES Blas Cabrera Felipe is the center with the highest number of participants with a total of 135 competitors, followed by the IES Salines with 95 and the IES Yaiza itself, organizer of the event, with 93 young people registered.

Students can participate in teams, composed of a maximum of four members, or individually. The XVII IES Yaiza Triathlon has 256 teams this year, in its three categories of male, female and mixed. In addition, 60 of the students will compete individually.

At 08:30 on Friday, the first participants will begin to arrive at the IES Yaiza facilities. Once received and after the pertinent formalities, the participants will move to the enclave near Puerto Calero, where the swimming segment will be held. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the participants have to face a distance of 500 meters.

Then the triathletes will face an 800-meter link race to reach the area where the bicycles are located, which will be located in the Hotel Hesperia parking lot. From there, the cycling event will begin with a 7.5-kilometer route, with continuous orographic difficulties, being one of the toughest and most complicated parts of the triathlon.

And finally, the participants will have to overcome the running segment with a 2.5-kilometer route. A segment with some ramps, cross-country through the vicinity of the IES Yaiza, which will force the triathletes to make a final effort and take them to the finish line.

The organization of the XVII IES Yaiza Triathlon is in charge of the Educational Community, has divided the competitors into a category for those over twenty years of age and another for those under that age. In addition, there will be a special category for the triathletes of the First Cycle of ESO of the IES Yaiza. The event will last approximately one hour and a half, and it is expected that from 12:00 hours the awards ceremony and distinctions of the winners will take place. The "Tortuga" Trophy will also be awarded, an award that recognizes the effort to complete the event to the last classified.

The XVII IES Yaiza Triathlon will be carried out thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the Faculty of the IES Yaiza, and with the support of the private initiative of Coca Cola, Hotel Princesa Yaiza, Hotel Hesperia Puerto Calero, Kalise, Restaurante Casa Pedro, Restaurante Brisa Marina, Restaurante Casa Brígida and Puerto Calero. It also has the support of the Department of Sports of the Yaiza City Council, the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, the General Directorate of Youth, the Island Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Yaiza City Council, the Yaiza Local Police, Civil Protection and the Civil Guard.
