"The meat"

January 17 2022 (16:43 WET)

I eat meat.

It would be hypocritical to say otherwise.

I like it.

I'm not so much into medium-rare steak, but I do like a secreto or presa cut.

I understand the social and cultural context I'm in and the country I live in, with a long history of consuming it.

I understand that the excessive production of the meat sector in this country (about 48 kilos per person per year) is the bread and butter of many people, as opposed to the undeniable animal suffering that sustains this figure.

I know that raising debates under imposition does not lead to any progress.

Because I don't like being imposed on or questioned about my habits and behaviors.

Just as I have never dared to question vegans or vegetarians, in addition to respect, I know that they are brave and that sooner or later, the rest of us will have to put that transition on the table, as the rate of production we are taking is unsustainable. And animal abuse, that too.

The meat production sector is one of the most polluting, both the WHO, and any commitment signed by Spain and the whole of Europe to achieve a society that moves towards REAL ecological transition, among its clear points, highlights the reduction of the impact generated by the industry. This is neither right-wing nor left-wing, it is common sense.

(I still don't understand how we have decided to put a political color on universal problems. And the consumption model is one of them)

On the other hand, I also believe that we must put ourselves in the shoes of all the agents who have to adapt to this transition.

There are many people who live from the livestock sector in this country. And we must offer them viable alternatives. Precisely, so that they do not starve.

It is not about imposing, it is about reflecting and empowering, as always, those who are most harmed by the drastic changes that are faced.

But that vision and that accusatory finger on the part of some vegan@ about "you must stop eating meat because you are a bad person" will only make the majority end up at McDonald's out of anxiety.

Imposition DOES NOT WORK.

Yes, we must think about our children and grandchildren, and the deterioration of the environment.

But also, in animal suffering, which no one can escape.

Because... creating life, that feels and suffers to feed us in a morbid way, does not seem logical or ethical.

IT IS VERY CRUEL.

It would be logical that in that recent extension of rights of the animal protection law, there should also be evidence of the definitive eradication of macro-farms.

Or are we also going to divide animals into class A and class B to give importance or not to their suffering?

The road is long, no doubt, breaking with traditions usually is. But... there is NO PLANET B.
