The Lanzarote Traffic Office, abandoned by the State

In recent years, the facilities of the General Directorate of Traffic of Lanzarote have suffered the effects of the State's neglect. Of the 16 officials that should be in the offices to serve the public, there are only three at the moment and they are overwhelmed. This situation causes considerable work stress. Of these three people, one is on a service commission, one will leave the office in July, and another will retire soon. Also, there are three examiners who will retire in less than five years. The situation is very unfortunate. A quality service cannot be provided under these conditions. We get the impression that the Island Directorate of the State Administration has not been doing its homework for some time. They have not even been able to fix the elevator, which has been out of order for more than ten years. What neglect.

This lack of human resources in Traffic is also related to the paralysis of the Government, which seems to be more concerned with amnesty than with other issues. The General State Administration accumulates a deficit of 43,000 positions corresponding to the period 2010-2020 and more than half of the staff will retire within ten years.

If we continue with this inaction and improvisation after improvisation by the Government, we may soon find the Traffic Office closed, with the disruption that this would cause to the citizens of Lanzarote, not forgetting the Social Security offices that are going the same way. Time will tell.
