Much has been written about the transversality of tourism and society..., a few days ago I read an article that highlighted this reality, emphasizing the natural landscape of the Canary Islands, as well as what it represents for the island's economy, which undoubtedly supports, in one way or another, a large majority of Canarian families.
At this time of year, when the world's best tourist destinations meet in Madrid at the International Tourism Fair, FITUR, we have decided to present an initiative that aims to increase the flow of tourists to our municipality, a model that seeks to redistribute the wealth generated by tourism.
"Teguise Essential", unlike other actions, has its development framework within the island and aims to "recommend" that each and every one of the tourists who visit us every year (2,000,000) pass through Teguise and have the opportunity to experience visiting our town, seeing our natural way of life and enjoying all the resources that Teguise offers, from natural to cultural, as well as purely tourist ones.
It goes without saying that a destination is consolidated day by day, and that is what we are doing. It is also true that the business fabric is what serves our visitors, and their professionalism largely defines the level of customer satisfaction. Fortunately, we have professionals who, many of them, hold the most important awards in the field, proof of this and naming the last one received, a hotel establishment in Costa Teguise has been awarded as the Best Affordable Luxury Hotel, Best Luxury Resort on the Coast of Spain and Southern Europe and Best Luxury Resort with Spa and Thalassotherapy in Spain, by the "Luxury Travel Guide". With materials of this quality, an unparalleled destination is being created, in the midst of the whirlwind of offers that the rest of the destinations make available to potential customers.
Improving the destination is not a matter of one person, it is a matter of a team in which you are also part. We, from the town hall, adopt the firm commitment to do as much as possible to improve the enclave, following the guidelines adopted in the periodic meetings we hold with the sector and that mark an important part of the road.
I assure you that we continue to firmly demand more and better public infrastructures, such as the Congress Palace, the execution of the new project on Avenida de Las Cucharas, more funds to solve mobility problems, better sports facilities, new meeting points, providing more services to our beaches, among other issues. An endless number of needs, all of them, with the sole objective of responding to our commitment to improve the quality of life of our neighbors and those who visit us.
In a few days we will begin a continuous action of restoration of our landscape throughout the municipality, whose objective is to recover what has made us different, our landscape. We have a hard road ahead, but I assure you that it will be satisfactory for all parties involved, from the tour operator to the neighbor of the smallest town, and all this without neglecting the important needs that are generated daily in our municipality. We need your help, your enthusiasm, your pride in belonging to Teguise, your participation. So that all of us, together, can wear our best clothes in the celebration of our 600th anniversary of foundation as a town.
We are all tourism.
