The Kanarian Social Organization TITEROYGAKAT believes that for many years the Municipality of Arrecife, the capital city of Lanzarote, has been strongly demanding a Municipal Nursery.
Our demand is based on the reconciliation of family and work life of all productive sectors of the Island, the impossibility that fundamentally women, can have a place to leave their children and be able to work, without this action greatly affecting family income, as it is currently with private nurseries, where only the fact of leaving their children greatly affects family income from salaried work, which is why, TITEROYGAKAT, echoing the great demand from citizens for many years, we propose:
The immediate creation of a Municipal Nursery by the Arrecife City Council, which will create the necessary infrastructure and sustain its equipment and maintenance, being managed by the City Council and by a cooperative of Kindergarten assistants, Pedagogues, Nursing Assistants, Cooks and Management Department.
We believe that in this way the workers would not be civil servants and at the same time would work more coherently with the needs that arise, being self-managed and at the same time, providing a service so demanded and necessary for our population.
For this proposal we think that there are many professionals with required qualifications, who are unemployed or with precarious employment, so it is not unreasonable, neither for the City Council, nor for the workers, to be configured as a Cooperative to develop this project.
The Municipal Nursery would have affordable prices for the entire population, with adequate opening hours and services 24 hours a day. It could be used not only as a Nursery, but also as a basic training school to access Primary education, which is now totally forgotten. It would also serve to leave babies during the time their parents work or for an occasional outing in celebrations.
We know that this Municipal Nursery has been taken to Plenary on different occasions and a very necessary time has been lost in useless digressions with privatizing proposals, where profitability clearly prevails, we, considering this population and institutional need very necessary, is why in order to favor the population, at the same time, that the institution fulfills its functions, is why we propose that this so necessary Municipal Nursery be made based on our management and operation Project. It is not crazy in its form of creation, the one in Tías has been doing it this way for many years and represents a paragon, for the City Council and workers.
