With 2021 already behind us, 2022 promises to be a year of changes in Haría. We have gone through a difficult stage in the municipality, marked by the health crisis of COVID-19, which still persists, but which we are fighting more and more effectively, by the socio-economic crisis derived from this pandemic, and by the migratory crisis in the Canary Islands, which has hit the north more sharply.
In view of these major, well-defined and identified problems, the Haría Town Hall has worked together with administrations at all levels to solve them or alleviate their consequences. We have stressed the importance of respecting health measures and have adapted municipal events and places to allow for this. We have tried to contribute to the socio-economic recovery, with employment plans and other projects that have helped us to go from more than 500 unemployed in December 2020, to 379 registered in the last month of December. Finally, we have coordinated with the Government of Spain the transfer of land for the installation of a SIVE in Guinate, with the aim of stopping as soon as possible this migratory process that has become a humanitarian drama.
However, despite continuing to fight and having our senses set on solving these problems, we have set our sights on the future of Haría. This new year, and all those to come, we want Haría to be a more sustainable municipality. We want to base the management of this Town Hall on the creation of a renewed, sustainable and healthy municipality for us and for future generations. We are convinced that our natural conditions allow it, so the line of work we are drawing is going to be in line with the environment, the environment, the culture and the people of Haría.
Among the main challenges for 2022 we include projects in the area of urban mobility, with a specific plan for the improvement of the sidewalks of the municipality and with the intention of promoting an increasingly frequent use of electric vehicles, as well as public transport.
The Haría Smart Lighting Plan will be another of the tasks of this team for the coming year. In order to solve the light pollution present in the municipality and to allow the unique beauty of our sky to be appreciated by neighbors and visitors, we plan to implement actions so that public lighting does not affect this landscape.
On the other hand, the sustainable exploitation of the primary sector is another of the objectives of the Government group, so we will seek to bet on biodynamic and ecological agriculture, trying to diversify our economy and give adequate attention to a vital area.
Other sectors whose growth we want to promote in 2022 is the tourist sector, with a clear commitment to boosting the sector and greater sustainability when planning it, working to promote our routes, trails and gastronomy, among other attractions. In the same line, we want the craft sector to also receive specific support to continue developing one of the activities that have made us most popular on the Island and in the Canary Islands.
In short, we will seek to modify our General Plan, on the road to a sustainable growth of Haría, ensuring the conservation of our environment and with proposals focused on less pollution and a different point of view when exploiting our resources.
There is a long road ahead, a whole year in which there will be changes, but in which our intention is that they are always for the better, with our sights set on the collective good and the progress of a historic municipality, deserving of a privileged place in the hearts of all the people of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
