The Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Sociedad de Promoción Exterior de Lanzarote (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), has announced the jury's decision for the Isla de Lanzarote and Distinguished Tourism Awards 2025, following the meeting of the entity's board of directors on Thursday, July 31. These awards recognize the excellence, commitment, innovation, and trajectory of individuals, companies, and entities that significantly contribute to the island's tourism development.

The awards jury, composed of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, EPEL-CACTs, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Navigation of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Asolan, the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, Felapyme, as well as the island's seven town councils, has awarded the Isla de Lanzarote 2025 Award to the airline Aer Lingus, in recognition of its essential contribution to positioning the destination in the Irish market. The airline celebrates its 80th anniversary this year and its 22 years of uninterrupted connection between Ireland and the island.

The President of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the relevance of these awards "as an expression of the recognition of Lanzarote society to those who, from their field of action, have helped to build a more competitive, sustainable, and valued island as a top-level destination."

"Aer Lingus's historical and constant connection with Lanzarote is a clear example of loyal, sustained, and fruitful cooperation with tangible results for our tourism sector," the president emphasized.

For his part, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, stated that "it is great news that the council, as the awards jury, has considered this proposal, as Aer Lingus represents the Irish market, the most loyal to the island, with a significant spending capacity."

Fernández added that "this recognition fits perfectly with the destination's strategy, aimed at qualifying the type of client. Aer Lingus passengers belong to a medium-high range profile, and the company, as part of the Oneworld alliance, channels tourists with greater purchasing power in Ireland." "Its stable connectivity with Lanzarote and its continued contribution to island tourism justify receiving this award," he concluded.

Distinguished Tourism Awards 2025 and Special Mentions

Likewise, the Distinguished Tourism Awards 2025 have been distributed in three categories. At the company level, the award has gone to Ereza Hotels & Resorts. In the category of events, cultural and/or sports events, the Vertical de Montaña Blanca has been awarded. Finally, in the personality category, the jury has awarded Naji Zegdaoui Bardoukh.

In addition, it has been agreed to grant two special mentions. One of them to Salinas de Janubio, as an emblematic enclave of natural and landscape heritage, and the other to Pedro Orlando (Ico) Montelongo Pérez.

The awards ceremony will be held on September 29 in Costa Teguise, in an institutional event that will bring together the main representatives of the island's tourism sector and local authorities.
