It has always been symptomatic that a Moroccan Government that tightly controls its citizens within its country, and where nothing and no one moves without the knowledge and permission of King MOHAMED VI, is not capable of controlling its coasts to prevent boats from leaving and illegal drug packages from arriving.
And also the insecurity of a Spanish State that does not control its coasts either or demand that the "brother" neighboring country do so and, above all, respect Human Rights in its territory and the one it has illegally usurped (Western Sahara).
.Also, the suspicion of the great friendship that has always existed between the Spanish State (The King and certain leaders of successive Spanish governments) and the Government of Morocco and its King.
Topped off with the suspicion of the permanent coincidence of the intensification of boats and drug trafficking from the Moroccan coast, when Bilateral Agreements are being negotiated between Morocco and the European Union (fishing, agriculture, phosphate, minerals,...).
And so we have been losing fishing, tomatoes,...., will it be tourism tomorrow?.
I imagine that this "supposed" strategy, in connivance, of the two States, will bring many personal benefits to their leaders but it is not giving so much benefit to the citizens of the Canary Islands and Spain.
Therefore, "they" have never supported the International Resolutions of the UN and the European Court regarding Western Sahara. "THEY" prefer a Moroccan Dictatorial Government that controls the area, that stops immigration, drugs and jihadism.
But "We", the good ones, must start thinking about what interests us more, not only to comply with international law and out of solidarity with a people exiled in Tindouf for 43 years, but for our own interests. I am clear about it:
The Referendum of Self-determination and a FREE SAHARA.
Because we already know for sure that with Morocco we are going with "the bow to the seafood". On the other hand, with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), perhaps we could catch that seafood again with a Canary Islands Fishing Fleet, through solidarity agreements with the Sahrawi people. Not agreements based on blackmail and extortion. NO TRICK OR TREAT, NO BOATS OR BUSINESS. We already lived with that Sahrawi people and it didn't go badly for us.
In this case, the saying: "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't", does not make sense here. I would risk knowing that "good". Here the other saying would be worth more: "BETTER GOOD HOPE THAN A WRETCHED POSSESSION". We already know something about this people, their patience, their courage and their nobility. BETTER THE GOOD FROM AFAR THAN THE EVIL FROM NEAR. And I don't think they are worse than a Feudal Dictatorship of the Alawite Monarch. From the outset they talk about Republic and Democracy. BETTER THE FORCE OF REASON THAN THE REASON OF FORCE. Impossible to be worse than "them".
In short, a SADR in its legitimate territory of Western Sahara that will need a neighbor to help it develop its country. A land with many possibilities: FISHING, AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK, MINERALS, INDUSTRY, TOURISM,...., and "we" know a lot about that (Fishing School, Agricultural and Livestock Farm, Technological Institute, University School of Tourism,....).
