The Yaiza City Council approved last Thursday to initiate "negotiations" to "revise" the canon that the municipality receives under the agreement it maintains with the Island Council for the exploitation of the Timanfaya National Park. In addition, it was also agreed to request the removal of the fence that currently surrounds the Charco de Los Clicos, in El Golfo.

Coalición Canaria, which presented both motions to the Plenary, explains that the revision of that agreement on the Montañas del Fuego aims to revise "the income reported by the Lanzarote Island Council in Yaiza" to "consolidate the payment of the canon and have, the municipal coffers, with stable annual income so that the budgets are favored".

Regarding the Charco de los Clicos, the CC motion approved in the plenary requested the City Council to "urge the Ministry of the Environment, through the Demarcation of Coasts, to eliminate the fence of the particular puddle of El Golfo." "After the central government carried out an investment of more than half a million euros, claimed by the conejeros, to improve the dredging of one of the most important landscape curiosities of the island, an inappropriate fence was placed for the area," explains the nationalist formation, which considers that this "delimitation does not match the area protected by the Biosphere Reserve" and has requested "that the option of returning to the traditional fence of ropes and pivots that do not break the aesthetics of the area be reconsidered".

Issues "more than necessary"

In addition to these two motions, the plenary of the Yaiza City Council approved two other proposals from the formation, which has stressed that all of them dealt with "issues more than necessary for the municipality" and that "for some time they have been demanding a revision." Thus, in addition to reviewing the agreement with the Island Council and the proposal on the Charco de los Clicos, the resurfacing of Montaña Almurcia street in Yaiza and the improvement of the surroundings of the term of La Degollada were also approved.

Regarding the resurfacing of Montaña Almurcia street in the town of Yaiza, CC points out that it is one of the "main roads" of the municipality and that "for several years a good plan to improve the roads has not been carried out and this causes problems for pedestrians." For this reason, the formation demanded a "program to solve this deficiency in the roads", which would be included within the Municipal Collaboration Works Plan, or that funding be sought from the Island Council.

The last initiative approved urges the Government group to carry out a "improvement plan" on the roads of La Degollada, "so that they have their corresponding lighting so necessary for pedestrians", that in turn that lighting is "respectful with the environment." On the other hand, the improvement of ravines or runoff is requested, for whose adaptation it will be necessary to request the collaboration of the Island Water Council.

"Fortunately, the plenary of the Yaiza City Council took the motions presented by this group well, understanding that they are issues more than necessary for the municipality," says the councilor and spokesperson for the Coalición Canaria group, Ángel Domínguez, who adds that "it is a shame that the Government group has not realized the real problems that our municipality suffers." CC in Yaiza concludes by indicating that they feel "gratified by the Plenary of the Municipal Corporation, since it is clearly seen that this group of councilors, despite being in the opposition, work and care about our municipality and its people."
