The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, gives municipal approval to the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the formulation of the Tourism Modernization Plan that aims to improve the competitiveness of the town of Playa Blanca, but warns the president of the First Island Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort García, that he will not allow the drafting of a Plan “behind the back of the City Council that represents the interests of the municipality and its population.”

With the letter of conformity, the first president of Yaiza expressly requests “maximum information and participation in all technical and business meetings out of respect for Yaiza and because we are the ones who best know the reality of Playa Blanca.”

The mayor states that “the necessary presence of the Corporation in the works required by the Modernization Plan is reiterated, in addition to the formal procedures”, in the municipal resolution addressed to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and also to the Government of the Canary Islands.

Óscar Noda already held a meeting with the Canarian president, Fernando Clavijo, demanding financing for the development of the Tourism Modernization Plan in order to improve the aesthetics and accessibility of public spaces, among other objectives.

Óscar Noda insists that “we will not be the ones to oppose promoting and processing the document and improving and increasing competitiveness for the Playa Blanca nucleus, but we demand that the Cabildo be upfront to agree on the actions.”

And to make his position more than clear, Yaiza reminds the Cabildo in his letter that the modernization plans “will be processed at the proposal of the affected municipality or municipalities, at the initiative of the corresponding Island Council or the Government of the Canary Islands and at the request of the affected individuals, where appropriate.”

The southern mayor declares that “Yaiza has extended and extends its hand to all administrations because we understand that it is the way to execute projects of common interest, so we hope that loyalty is reciprocal.” Yaiza will request a meeting with the Cabildo next week to learn about the status of the Plan and its roadmap.
