The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the regional director of FCC, Miguel Ángel Castanedo, signed this Monday the start-up act of the new street cleaning service of the municipality, which covers all the southern towns. This includes the partial plans already received by the City Council: Costa Papagayo, Playa Blanca, Castillo del Águila, San Marcial del Rubicón and Las Coloradas, located in the tourist center of Playa Blanca, and Corto Viejo and Puerto Calero, in Puerto Calero.

“The concessionaire began operating this Monday with a new sweeper, a new van equipped with a hydro-cleaning machine and other technical resources, although FCC has the commitment to incorporate more resources”, says the mayor, who gathered operators and managers of the company to welcome them, reminding them "the importance of their work in the objective of keeping the municipality clean".

In addition, Noda stressed that "the collaboration of citizens is not only necessary, but essential in a task in which each of us has a social and environmental responsibility”. Óscar Noda was accompanied by the first deputy mayor, Ángel Domínguez, and the Councilor for Cleaning, Jonatan Lemes.

The latter recalled that “the annual cost of the service is 693,000 euros, a significant investment with which we intend to improve the cleaning services of roads, sidewalks and curbs, washing of parks and squares and emptying of bins”.

On the other hand, after approving the feasibility plan, the City Council will tender again the service of collection and transport of urban solid waste, waste fraction and implementation of organic fraction, and other waste from the municipality such as furniture, junk and debris, batteries, toners, pruning, metals, wood, paints, car oils, dead animals and tires and collection of clothing and footwear, as well as the collection, transport and management of domestic oil. “These are essential services in which technical criteria must prevail over purely economic ones,” stressed the mayor of Yaiza.
