The Yaiza City Council has started this week the works of replacement of a total of 392 streetlights in the Castillo del Águila partial plan, in the tourist town of Playa Blanca. In this project, 144,000 euros of European funds linked to the ‘Soy Canary Green’ project have been invested, promoted by the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC), of which Yaiza is a part along with thirteen more municipalities of the Archipelago, those with the greatest specific weight in the sector, which promote actions to maintain the quality of the destination betting on sustainability.

Yaiza has its energy consumption optimization program underway and the initiative of new LED-type luminaires in Castillo del Águila adds to others already carried out or to be executed in the municipality. The mayor, Óscar Noda, declares that “we are changing all the luminaires in this residential and tourist area, taking another step in energy efficiency in the public lighting of Playa Blanca”. The mayor and the Councilor for Public Works of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, visited this Tuesday the streets of the partial plan where the operators are advancing the replacement works.

The municipal leader also informs that “were already ordered new solar streetlights totally self-sufficient to illuminate the bike lane that connects the entrance of Playa Blanca and the industrial area. The supplier will deliver them in June to proceed with their installation”.

On the other hand, the comprehensive rehabilitation project of the Avenida Papagayo of Playa Blanca, whose first phase is already underway, also foresees the installation of new low-consumption luminaires, optimizing energy efficiency and improving the safety of the environment, in this main artery of the southern town.
