The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, announced this Friday together with the CEO of Visosan, Agustín Fernández, the resumption of 14 unfinished homes in Arrecife that will be allocated to the most vulnerable families.

Viviendas Sociales de Canarias (Visocan), has published on the State contracting platform the announcement of the tender for the 'turnkey' project for the acquisition in the form of unfinished housing developments for an amount of 4.5 million euros, of which 1.5 will be allocated to Lanzarote.

"Today they are announcing something extraordinarily important for our Island. If Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have had differences and difficulties in the economic field, it is also true that we have a housing crisis that we have suffered over the last few years. Public housing in Lanzarote has not existed for approximately 25 years. Today we are presenting a pilot project, in which for the first time the owners of unfinished homes that have not been able to be completed have the opportunity to transfer them so that they can be completed and enabled for the most vulnerable families,” the president highlighted.

For his part, Agustín Fernández, added that the 'turnkey' concept “encompasses the circularity policy that is based on the 'rule of the three Rs'. In this case, it consists of reducing land consumption by taking advantage of the unfinished structures of the 2008 crisis or, in the case of the transfer by the Cabildo of Lanzarote of plots in the center of Arrecife that have been left unfinished, rehabilitating the public housing stock and recycling using specific materials.

In this way, the objective is the acquisition of homes destined to facilitate, in cases of urgency, the temporary accommodation of families who find themselves in exceptional situations of housing exclusion.

For its execution, a period of five months is planned with actions divided into three lots, which will allow the creation during this period of more than 216 direct, indirect and induced jobs.

At the end of the press conference, the Minister of Housing of the Cabildo, Rosa Callero, and the Councilor for Housing of the Arrecife City Council, Eduardo Placeres, present at the press conference, accompanied the CEO to visit several of the works in Arrecife.
