The former Councilor for Transportation of the Arrecife City Council, Víctor Betancort, has defended his work at the head of this department, after La Voz de Lanzarote published this Monday that the Prosecutor's Office is investigating allegedly irregular invoices charged to the municipal bus service. According to the complainants, these receipts would correspond to the stage in which the PSOE governed in Arrecife. However, the document submitted to the Prosecutor's Office also refers to possible irregularities in a survey commissioned by the current government group, which asked about a private bus transport company.

Víctor Betancort assures that in his stage there have been "no irregular invoices" and states that he does not know the details of this complaint. "No one has contacted me, I don't know what the receipts may be for," he says. However, he does explain why some workers received gasoline vouchers, as stated in one of these invoices that Comisiones Obreras brought to the attention of the Prosecutor's Office. "There are some department heads who are paid for gasoline because they make their private vehicles available to the City Council," he indicates, while stating that this is supervised by the person in charge of Transportation.

Betancort has also given an explanation about the alleged invoice that exists regarding the repair "of the private car of a worker or a councilor of the City Council", according to the complainants. In this case, he states that "there could be some invoice wrongly assigned to the department".

"I remember a car that was made available to the City Council and that had a scratch and whose repair was charged to Transportation. It may have had to be charged to Traffic. I was in charge of both areas and there may have been a confusion," Betancort clarifies.

Betancort wanted to make it clear that in his stage at the head of the Transportation area there have been "no irregularities". "These types of things have not been done," he defends. "In my stage, everything was carried out under the supervision of the technicians, both the issue of gasoline supply and mechanical matters," he insists.

"If the prosecutor calls me, I will go calmly"

Betancort assures that he feels "calm" despite all this controversy. "No one likes to be on everyone's lips, especially because there is a lot of pettiness in politics, but we have to face that we are public figures and that is what it is," he indicates.

If the Prosecutor's Office calls him to testify, something that has not happened, Betancort affirms that he will "attend without problems and calmly". "At no time have I had the benefit that some come to insinuate," he defends.
