The Asipal union presented a request together with the Central Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants (CSIF) to the Teguise City Council on March 10. The writing denounced "publicly the precariousness" of the material resources with which the agents of the Local Police of the municipality allegedly work.
The text was addressed to both the government group and the opposition of the Teguise City Council. Both unions claim to have informed the governing body on "numerous occasions" of the situation of "insecurity" and "deficiency" in which the agents find themselves.
In the same line, they assure that "the serious" situation not only affects the security forces of the municipality, but also harms the quality of service provision.
Police vehicles, in poor condition
Among the complaints presented by the trade union bodies, they emphasize that in May 2021 the "lamentable" state of the "scarce" patrol vehicles available to the Police department was already denounced.
At the same time, they confess that these vehicles could "not even have airbags, that have smooth tires, worn brakes, the sirens and emergency lights do not work and go out at the slightest bump".
For more concern, the unions reflect that in emergency situations the vehicles even "stop if they are forced or exceed 70 kilometers per hour." These conditions make visits to the workshop more frequent than usual. So, according to these union groups in ten years the use of these services has been "continuous."
Not only the vehicles are in poor condition, according to this complaint. To the Local Police cars, are added the police stations, the reflective flashlights, the uniforms or the daily work material.
Asipal CSL and CSIF allude to the "very serious abandonment" by the municipal corporation.
"To the insufficiency and the terrible state of the material resources, is added the deficit of agents in a municipality in constant growth", they relate. The staff has 35 agents, five new ones who are in practice and two who retire this year. In addition, "a very high percentage" that exceeds 50 years.
The request presented to the City Council aims to ensure that the Local Police of Teguise "can provide emergency services with guarantee and reliability." In this sense, "without putting at risk the integrity and security" of the agents.
The signatory unions emphasize that "they no longer know how to make the municipal corporation understand that it is a vital necessity." They also do not rule out that the current situation could lead to a "fatal outcome".
