Tourists traveling to Lanzarote spend approximately seven euros less on the island than those traveling to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, or La Palma, according to tourism demand indicators compiled by the Data Center of the Cabildo de Lanzarote on the occasion of the celebration of International Tourism Day.
On their trip to Lanzarote, the total expenditure of a tourist per day during the first semester of 2010 was 110.58 euros, higher than in previous years. Of these, 74 euros are spent at the origin and 34 at the destination. On the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, the expenditure at the destination is more than 43 euros, while on La Palma it is 42. In Fuerteventura, the expenditure is 22 euros per person per day.
By tourist areas, travelers staying in Playa Blanca spend the most in total (115 euros) and at the origin (82), while they spend 33 euros at the destination, compared to those in Puerto del Carmen, who spend the most at the destination (41 euros, compared to 71 at the origin). Those who go to Costa Teguise spend the least in both concepts: 67 at the origin and 31 on the Island.
Of the 36.38 euros per day that each tourist spends in Lanzarote, 2.68 are allocated to accommodation, 4.39 to transportation (1.38 to public transportation and 3.01 to car rental), 17.9 euros (46.7 percent of the expenditure on the island) to food (5.92 in supermarkets and 11.99 in restaurants), 5.64 to souvenirs, 4.39 to leisure, and 1.39 euros in other concepts.
So far this year, tourist influx has increased in Lanzarote by 9.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The largest increase occurs in French, Italian, Belgian, and Austrian tourists. The arrival of British tourists has increased by fifteen percent, that of Spanish tourists by eight percent, and that of German tourists by one percent. The influx of Irish tourists has decreased by eleven percent. The accumulated occupancy until August 2010 is 69.25 percent, which is 4.4 points more compared to the same period of the previous year.
