The president of the Nationalist Parliamentary Group (CC), David Toledo, stated in the Plenary of Parliament "the pride felt to see how NGOs unite in the face of difficulties, how island institutions say enough is enough, how municipalities of all political colors put the Canary Islands above all else, and how the majority of parliamentary groups are promoting the necessary modification of the Immigration Law”.
Toledo spoke at the Plenary of Parliament to ask President Clavijo for his assessment of the meeting held on Monday afternoon to guarantee the mandatory distribution of unaccompanied children and adolescents.
The party president lamented that "faced with a united, supportive, fighting and resilient Canary Islands, we are faced with a State with inhuman and selfish behaviors that leave much to be desired."
According to the nationalist president of the parliamentary group, "in all these months, the Canary Islands and only the Canary Islands has demonstrated foresight in the matter that concerns us today, which deals with the distribution of children and adolescents to the rest of the Autonomous Communities”, said the nationalist deputy who has advocated for the importance of a "common front" to face this reality.
In his opinion, "the behavior of Canarian society is what we wanted to see in the rest of the Spanish State and it is what we are not seeing for now, since, faced with the example of a united, supportive, fighting and resilient Canary Islands, we are faced with a State with inhuman and selfish behaviors that leave much to be desired."
Toledo regretted that "when political tactics are put above the lives of children, a social failure occurs that does not understand territories, politics or economics." "Let us not forget that the greatness of a society is measured by how its most vulnerable members are treated," added the nationalist leader.
On the other hand, the president of the Canarian Nationalist Group, celebrated that the Government of the Canary Islands "is not turning its back on the problems and is looking for immediate solutions focused on protecting the lives of minors." "And that was the commitment you acquired yesterday with all the NGOs, Cabildos, City Councils, and political forces, except VOX," concluded David Toledo.
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, assured that "yesterday was a day to feel proud as a people, we gave an example as a society and it will be decisive for what may happen in the coming days." Clavijo explained that it is "essential to know" firsthand the role that NGOs, city councils and island councils are playing to respond to the migratory phenomenon. "We have 5,000 unaccompanied minors and we cannot respond to this reality without the support of the State Government and the rest of the Autonomous Communities," concluded the president of the Canary Islands.
