Toledo confirms that the Adult School of Arrecife has reopened its doors: "It was nonsense and the director has backed down"

"It is already working and it couldn't be otherwise." The Councilor for Education of the Arrecife City Council, Paca Toledo, has confirmed that the Arrecife Adult School has reopened its doors, after its director, Alfonso Sánchez, assured this Monday that he was closing the facility due to the lack of doormen. "Now it is working normally," the councilor insisted.

This Monday, Sánchez told La Voz that he was going to close the Arrecife Adult School, which belongs to the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, because he had been informed that they were going to remove the two doormen that the center has. These two doormen were going to become part of Infant and Primary schools in the capital, although finally one will be able to stay at the Adult School.

The Councilor for Education has pointed out that the director of the center "has backed down" and has pointed out that the attitude he adopted this Monday, wanting to close the center, was "nonsense." "Yesterday (for Monday), seeing that the afternoon doorman was starting at the Capellanía school, he summoned the students and told them that the center was closed due to lack of doormen," explained Paca Toledo.

The councilor spoke with him and told him that "he cannot unilaterally close the center because there is a lack of doormen." "How is he going to harm 300 students! Some have called me worried," Toledo insisted, who has even suggested that if this attitude of the director were to go further, he could be sanctioned. However, she does not believe that it will come to this, since "the school is now functioning normally."

However, Paca Toledo is clear that Alfonso Sánchez "cannot alarm the population in that way." "Next time, consult before acting, because all those responsible already knew that a doorman was going to stay at the Arrecife Adult School and he should have called before mobilizing people," she said.

"We have three doormen in one"

The director of the center has expressed "concern" about the situation in which the facility is now left, with only one doorman to cover the morning, afternoon and evening hours. "Now the problems will come, but it has to be done because there is no other choice," he said, while saying that the doormen of this center are not only dedicated to "opening and closing the doors", but also "to cleaning and other services". "We have three doormen in one," he indicated.

Sánchez has pointed out that he is "disgusted", because the center had been operating for 28 years "quietly and without problems". "We have helped many people on the island with their studies. Many people have passed through this center," he indicated. "Now, at 28 years old, this lady comes who does not know what the Adult Center is and claims to be a socialist," he stated.

Alfonso Sánchez is "sorry" for the situation in which this center is left. "It's like raising your own child and when he is in his splendor he has an accident and they leave him mutilated," he lamented.
