The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, has announced that he will appeal the Cabildo's resolution ordering the City Council to remove the Christmas decoration from the roundabout at the entrance to the municipality. "That roundabout is ours," Machín told La Voz, who understands that "the Cabildo doesn't have to interfere there."
Although the resolution is dated November 22, the mayor of Tinajo has stated that the City Council was notified "last week." "If I remember correctly," he added. In addition, Jesús Machín has pointed out that he is not "at all" in agreement with the Cabildo's resolution or with the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the City Council. "That's what they interpret," said the mayor, insisting that he will appeal.
Specifically, the Cabildo has ordered the removal of the Christmas decoration from the roundabout and the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the City Council following a complaint from the Road Surveillance and Conservation Service of the island's first institution, which warned that the Christmas elements had not been authorized. In addition, the installed decoration is considered a "risk" to traffic due to its possible fall on the road "due to the action of wind, electrocution or fire."
The Cabildo also understands that "it is not legalizable" and therefore orders that disciplinary proceedings be opened against the Tinajo City Council for the possible commission of a serious infraction of the Road Law, stating that "it can be sanctioned with a fine of up to a maximum of 12,020 euros." Among other things, that Law requires requesting authorization "from the owner of the road" to carry out any intervention on a road, which the City Council did not do. However, Machín maintains that the roundabout depends on the municipality.
