The Tías City Council recently presented to the representatives of the Insular Association of Hotel and Apartment Business Owners of Lanzarote (Asolan) the "Proposal for a New Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen", which was "well received" by the hotel employers' association.
"The tourist center of Puerto del Carmen cannot be paralyzed. It needs investment and it needs renovation. The City Council is willing to promote the rehabilitation and recover the excellence in most of the lodging establishments, and that is what we are working on," said the Councilor for Tourism and acting mayor, Mame Fernández.
In addition to Mame Fernández, the meeting - held in early August - was attended by the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Ulpiano Calero, the head of the drafting team of the proposal, Rafael Castellano, and several members of Asolan, represented by its president, Susana Pérez.

"We want to guarantee the legal security of all establishments that have renovated their facilities and we want to continue working on the rehabilitation. The new plan also requires an update of the urban structure of Puerto del Carmen, the road system or shopping centers, for example," said the Councilor for Urban Planning, Ulpaino Calero.
According to the City Council, the representatives of the hotel employers' association showed interest in the content of the proposal and requested a meeting with all the business owners starting in September to delve into the details of the document. In addition, the creation of technical conferences on the Modernization Plan is planned.
