Tías signs the contract to award the cleaning and beach service to FCC, which will invest 8 million euros in the acquisition of material

The company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), winner of the public tender for the new street cleaning and beach service in the municipality of Tías, will invest in the next four months an amount close to 8 million euros for the acquisition of new vehicles, machinery and equipment that will be used in the daily collection of urban waste and maintenance of parks and gardens in the municipality of Tías.

According to the technical specifications of the tender, which was put out to tender last autumn, FCC, as the winning company, will be obliged to implement modern machinery in all new services, as well as for the cleaning of the beaches of Matagorda, Pocillos, Playa Grande and Playa Chica, in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, signed this Wednesday, together with the regional delegate in the Canary Islands of FCC, Miguel Ángel Castanedo Samper, the final award of this municipal service for a period of 10 years. FCC will receive annually from the Tías Town Hall the amount of approximately 4 million euros. This amount includes the part destined to the acquisition of all the new machinery, which at the end of the award, will be of municipal property.

Among them are the new garbage compactors, an innovative and pioneering system in the Canary Islands, which will contribute to the reduction of the hitherto visual impact of garbage containers on the main roads of the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen. The compactors will allow a greater storage of urban waste in less physical space. Another novelty of the system that will be implemented by the Tías Town Hall is that the vehicles and trucks destined for garbage will be side-loading, allowing a more agile and clean daily service in the streets of the municipality.

Decades of "anomalies"

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, stressed after the signing of the award that "our Government group (PP and San Borondón) resolves with this award, with all favorable reports, a service that in recent decades has been full of anomalies, as ruled by the Canary Islands Advisory Council".

"Since we arrived at the Municipal Government we are working with transparency and applying the law to all our public tenders and municipal actions. This company won the tender, as agreed by the Procurement Table in which all the political forces of the Corporation are present, in addition to the technicians, secretary and municipal auditor", the mayor stressed.

The Town Hall recalls that since 2009 the previous company, Salimpa, "had kidnapped and intervened the cleaning service, many debts and embargoes, as well as sealed and seized machinery, which should be of municipal property, according to the extension of this service - contrary to what the Law determines and with negative reports, approved by the previous mayor, of the PSOE". Thus were determined, he adds, "all those vicissitudes, illegalities and anomalies in the opinion of the Canary Islands Advisory Council, requested by the current mayor of Tías".

Pancho Hernández also stressed that the company has subrogated the entire staff of Salimpa, S.L. From today FCC is the company that will be responsible for all cleaning, pruning, maintenance of gardens and green areas, and beach cleaning, throughout the municipality of Tías.

From the municipal Government group it is emphasized that "what the previous political leaders of Tías did not do in 18 years, the PP and San Borondón have solved it, with the Law in hand and all the reports of the technicians supporting this contest, the largest in the democratic history of Tías, in less than 20 months".
