University students from the municipality of Tías and students of intermediate and higher level training cycles that cannot be studied in Lanzarote can apply for the Town Hall's grants for the 2024/2025 academic year from this Monday, October 21st until December 2nd, 2024.

The Tías Town Hall has opened the deadline for submitting these applications and has published the bases with the requirements of the call and the corresponding annexes on its notice board. This documentation can be consulted on the website of the council, on its notice board, under the description Grant for competitive study grants 24/25.

The Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, recalled that the council has increased the amounts received by students in the municipality in recent years. "Our commitment is to guarantee equal opportunities. We want all students to be able to access university education and training cycles offered outside of Lanzarote and thus have the possibility of building a better future," he declared.

The Councilor for Education, Miriam Hernández, explained that this year the deadline for submitting applications has been brought forward "because we are aware of the enormous effort that families make to support their sons and daughters outside the island. Our goal is that no family has to choose between covering other needs and guaranteeing their children's education."

The beneficiaries are people who are studying official university studies, whether face-to-face or non-face-to-face, inside and outside of Lanzarote; or official studies of intermediate and higher level training cycles that cannot be studied on the island.

As in previous years, both the student's academic excellence and the family's social and economic situation are assessed, taking into account the reports prepared by the Social Welfare area, led by Nicolás Saavedra. In fact, this procedure is a joint effort of the Social Welfare and Education areas.

The minimum amount that university students studying outside the island can receive is 1,000 euros, an amount that increases depending on academic excellence and other social parameters.

Grants are also awarded for university studies in Lanzarote, for studying training cycles outside the island and for those enrolled in non-face-to-face education.

Applications can be submitted in person at the Tías Town Hall or electronically with a general application through the council's electronic headquarters.
