Tías is, as of this Tuesday, the first municipality in Lanzarote, and one of the pioneers in the Canary Islands, **to have a point for the electric recharging of vehicles**. The Tías City Council has executed the adaptation works on the Las Playas maritime avenue, in the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen.

To launch this initiative, the Tías City Council has had the collaboration of the tourist company Apartamentos Rocas Blancas, whose facilities are located in the area. This company **will provide the electrical energy for the supply of this charging point** free of charge for this type of car.

The mayor of Tías, **Pancho Hernández**, inaugurated these new environmental facilities this noon. The president of the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, **José Torres**, and the president of Sustainable Hotels of Lanzarote, integrated into the Lanzarote tourism association, ASOLAN, **Leda Giordano**, attended the event. The Councilor for Tourism and New Technologies, **Nerea Santana**, the head of Mobility and Traffic, **Francisco Javier Aparicio** and the manager of Rocas Blancas apartments, **Juan de León**, also attended.

This charging point will allow existing electric vehicles in Lanzarote to refuel in this town. In this way, Tías does its bit to comply with the requirements of the European Commission, which imposes on Spain the goal of multiplying the charging points by 60. That is, **going from just over 1,300 points to 82,000, between now and 2020.**

By then, the Central Government expects to have just over two million electric vehicles circulating on its roads. This measure is part of the clean fuels strategy presented by the Community Executive. The Tías City Council also assures that, according to sources in the vehicle rental sector, **a tourist rarely travels enough distance in a day to exhaust the battery of a vehicle** of average autonomy, which is around 120 kilometers.

Other three charging points

The mayor of Tías has announced that his government group will soon take the regulatory modification to the plenary session to reward residents in the municipality with up to **75 percent in the mechanical traction and circulation tax**. The measure, once the modification of the ordinances is approved, will be in force for two years to encourage the use of this type of non-polluting vehicles.

Tías will continue in the coming months with the creation of **at least three other electric charging points** in other areas of the municipality.

In addition, **the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce has a photo station** that also serves to recharge electric vehicles, although in this case the energy is solar and not electric, as in Tías.
