The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, met this week with the general director of Road Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, Rosa Ana Melián, to discuss various issues related to the municipality, among which the necessary intervention in the tunnel area of Fajardo Street stands out to guarantee the accessibility and safety of the road.

José Juan Cruz Saavedra and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Ulpiano Calero, presented to the General Directorate the “Preliminary Project for the improvement of pedestrian mobility through the LZ-2 (Camino Los Fajardo)”, a document prepared by the Tías City Council in order to expedite the procedures and for the Government of the Canary Islands to finance the final project, budgeted at 1,328,565.43 euros.

Fajardo Street, which connects the central Avenida Alcalde Florencio Suárez with the Los Lirios road, includes a tunnel section with a one-meter-wide sidewalk that is not suitable to guarantee the accessibility and safety of pedestrians, which makes a comprehensive intervention on the road necessary.

The mayor highlighted the "good disposition shown by the General Directorate of Road Infrastructure of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility to study and respond to a historical demand of the residents of Tías".

He stressed that the improvement of the Fajardo Street tunnel is "a priority action to guarantee road safety, universal accessibility and pedestrian mobility at a strategic point in the municipality".

In this sense, he thanked the "receptiveness of the general director and valued the collaboration between administrations as a fundamental tool to advance in projects that directly affect the quality of life of citizens".

He also recalled that this type of investment "not only solves accessibility problems, but also contributes to modernizing urban infrastructures and promoting a more sustainable and safe mobility model".

During the meeting, other issues were addressed, such as the current situation of the duplication of the LZ40 road, whose environmental impact statement is pending from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands.
