The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Wednesday, December 20, three new buses that will reinforce the fleet of public transport vehicles on the Island.

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed that this action "i>strong>s supported by the approval this month of the Island Plan for Sustainable Transport and Mobility of Lanzarote, which is based on achieving more sustainable, inclusive, efficient mobility, and that allows the reduction of accidents.”

The Minister of Transport, Domingo Cejas, stressed that for the acquisition of these buses an investment of 1.4 million euros was made, through the 'NextGeneration' funds, in order to ensure that the gradual updating of the fleet supports the Cabildo's objective of reducing pollution, increasing efficiency and sustainability in mobility and continuing to comply with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the lines of action established to achieve these objectives is the increase and improvement of the supply of interurban public transport, which will be helped by the renewal of the bus fleet; the promotion of sustainable mobility in urban centers; the regulation and optimization of the taxi service and road actions to improve road safety.

Finally, the councilor announced that, due to the shortage of drivers, "it is difficult to be more ambitious in the implementation of changes in the various services provided", so an increase in frequencies will be launched from January 1 on Lines 34 (interior Tías) and 7 (Arrecife-Máguez), with three and two new frequencies respectively.
