The Yaiza City Council has responded to the news published this Thursday by La Voz de Lanzarote, in which the president of the Virginia Park urbanization, in Playa Blanca, denounced that the Paradise Island apart-hotel "is eating up part of the street", invading a public area with a fence to expand its property. According to the Consistory, it is not true that the hotel is "eating" a public space.
In fact, although it was outside its walls, the City Council assures that this section of the street is the property of Paradise Island. "The license granted corresponds to the work to move a stone wall with the aim of closing the private parking lot of the lodging complex, on its plot, as the urbanization's parking lot is delimited on the other side of the street," he said in a statement.
Despite this, the residents claim that this street "is public" and continue with their intention to file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office. Furthermore, a notary has already "made a record of what is happening there", according to the president of the Virginia Park urbanization, Juan Martín, to later go with this document to the Prosecutor's Office.
However, the City Council has insisted that the battery parking spaces, "are executed on hotel land, bordering India Street, in accordance with the property's project and verification by the Technical Office". "The authorization of the work was requested by the hotel to the City Council to comply with the Tourism Accommodation Activity Regulations, which require complexes to have private parking spaces according to their accommodation capacity," the Consistory pointed out.
In a statement, the City Council has assured that the file "clearly defines the line of existing parking spaces, on the borders of the sector, and the line of the new location of the wall". It was last February 27 when the City Council agreed to grant the license to this apart-hotel.
