The improvement of the television signal in the municipality of Yaiza can now be considered a fact. This is because in the plenary session held yesterday, the government group approved the agreement for the signing of the collaboration agreement between the City Council and Retevisión to improve the extension of this public service.
This will involve an investment of approximately 23,000 euros by the City Council. Linked to this point was the approval, also by the government group, of the credit modification file in the General Budget 2005 of the entity. This is because in order to carry out the aforementioned expense, the established budget had to be changed. Regarding these two points, both the Party of Independents of Lanzarote (PIL) and the Popular Party (PP) voted against, while the Socialist Party (PSOE) abstained.
Other aspects
Another of the points approved, on this occasion by the government group, PSOE and PIL, was to urge the central government to arbitrate a formula so that, due to the increase in the price of oil that has made the cost of fishermen's boats increase considerably and this affects their profitability, a system is sought so that sea workers have cheaper diesel.
This proposal was brought to the plenary session at the request of the Spanish Association of Fishing Cities. The PP was against it because it was brought to the plenary session as an agreement when in reality it was a report because the proposal had already been accepted by the City Council by decree.
Municipal sports schools
Among the points on the agenda, the implementation of municipal sports schools was also approved with the votes in favor of the government group and the Socialist Party and against the PP and PIL.
For this, a report is prepared each year to inform the plenary session of the income and expenses caused by the hiring of monitors and the signing of agreements with various sports clubs, some of which manage these schools. On the other hand, the proposal of the Femés residents' commission was unanimously agreed to send a letter to the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands so that they determine the date of July 7 as the festivity in which the first city that existed in the Archipelago is commemorated.
