Puerto del Carmen, the main tourist area of Lanzarote and one of the great diving destinations in the Canary Islands, will have the first nautical station dedicated to diving in the Canary Islands in the first quarter of 2020. This Saturday, May 25, the official tender for the works to be built in the area of Pila de la Barrilla or Playa Chica, in the center of La Tiñosa, is published. Companies wishing to submit to this official tender have until June 20 to submit economic and technical offers.

The Tías City Council managed in 2018 to have the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment authorize the construction and creation of a diving station next to the Pila de la Barrilla or Playa Chica, in the main tourist area of Lanzarote, Puerto del Carmen.

The General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea granted the Tías City Council the administrative concession for the creation and opening of these facilities in one of the main areas for diving that exists in a territory of Europe, located on the coast of Tías. The Municipal Government group (PP and CC) was pleased and had shown its satisfaction after the green light that Costas had given to this innovative project for the tourist destination of Puerto del Carmen and Lanzarote. The Cabildo of Lanzarote had guaranteed its financing to these facilities, which are already in tender today.

The Costas concession to the Tías City Council covers an occupation of 966 square meters of public maritime-terrestrial domain for water activities in Puerto del Carmen, T.M. de Tías, Lanzarote, Las Palmas. The concession, according to the resolution, has a duration of 15 years, extendable for another period of equal duration up to a maximum of 30 years.

The project, which the Cabildo is putting out to tender, and authorized by the General Directorate The General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea, allows the creation of a building with a 470 m² terrace, an area to facilitate access and allow loading and unloading of users of the facilities of 202 m², a garden area of 45 square meters, and an area of continuation of the pedestrian promenade in the area closest to the breakwater, allowing direct access to the water for divers of 249 m².

The Puerto del Carmen Underwater Activities Station was commissioned by the Tías City Council to the civil engineer, Ángel Pinedo Fernández, and the architect Ignacio González Alonso, dating from 2016. During all this time, the Tías City Council has been processing the mandatory authorization with Costas, which was accepted in the plenary session of the City Council in March of last year.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and the deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, highlighted in that plenary session of ratification of the Costas concession that from now on Puerto del Carmen will have this very necessary center demanded by divers who travel to the island to dive in this area of the coast of Puerto del Carmen where the so-called Cathedral is located, one of the great attractions for diving in Lanzarote, which is located on the seafront of Playa Chica or Pila de la Barrilla. For the Government group, having this center in the La Tiñosa area "makes it possible to improve public services and facilities in this enclave where more than 120,000 divers visit annually, according to data from Turismo de Lanzarote and disclosed by Turismo Lanzarote." The Puerto del Carmen diving station is born with the recognition of the area with two blue flags, one for Playa Chica, and another for the Blue Trail in the Barranco del Quíquere, waters where most of the dives are carried out in this enclave of the Tías coastline.

According to the report that the Tías City Council sent to Costas, the material execution time of this aquatic activities station will last about 6 months due to the architectural characteristics used for its design through modules where the toilets, changing rooms and cafeteria will be located, among other uses.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has published this Saturday on the web, the contractor profile, the tender for the work for an amount of tender (excluding taxes) of 681,002.79 ?. The central building will have an area of 194.54 m2 which will be built by 3 modules; one for changing rooms, another for a cafeteria and a third that encompasses the two previous ones in the form of an open box, as a lattice, and that serves as common areas for access to the other two modules. The closure of the lattice will be carried out by means of metal frames bolted onto buried concrete footings, to give lightness to the structure.

The wooden slat closure of the facade allows the total opening of the same by means of 1.66 meter wide modules that fold in their upper part to generate a parasol on the terrace and cafeteria area. The treatment of this terrace will be carried out using IPE wood, thus giving continuity to the interior and exterior of the same.
