The workers of the Garden Care company took to the streets of Costa Teguise this Tuesday to ask that this private company, subcontracted by the Union for the Conservation of Costa Teguise, recognize the rights that the employees have been demanding for more than a year. "We demand basic rights," explained Yolanda Casaldarmas, member of the Strike Committee, "to have a bathroom where we can wash, lockers, that the agreement is fulfilled, that they give us uniforms and reflective vests to work in the medians."

After more than a year of negotiations, the company's workers have decided to call this strike, which for the moment will last two days, and if Garden Care does not reach an agreement with its employees, it will resume next Saturday indefinitely. "After a year of negotiations, communication with the company was impossible, so we were forced to report them to the Labor Inspectorate, where they were made to buy vests, boots, gloves and other safety items," said Yolanda. "It was then that the layoffs began."

According to statements from the workers, this company has already fired six employees. "They say that the dismissals have nothing to do with the agreement," explained Víctor García, another member of the Garden Care Strike Committee. "They say that the workers are fired because they are useless, but it is suspicious that they realize that they are useless after more than a year." Antonio Noa had been working in the company for a year and a half, when a few weeks ago, he was fired. "It is clear that it is a reprisal," said the former worker. "They did it to scare the rest of the colleagues." Now, with this strike, it is intended that these six workers be reinstated in their jobs.

Garden Care is a company based in Seville, subcontracted by Unión para la Conservación de Costa Teguise. From the latter, no statements have been made to this medium. "I don't know these people," explained Rosa Romero, in charge of the same. "I don't know how the negotiations between the contractor and the workers are going, I try to stay out of it."
