The Tourist Information Offices of Villa and Costa Teguise, as well as the beaches of Las Cucharas, El Jablillo and Playa Bastián, have renewed the "Commitment to Tourist Quality" seal awarded by the State Secretariat for Tourism, which certifies compliance with the requirements established in the SICTED methodology (Comprehensive System of Spanish Tourist Quality in Destinations).
This certification is valid for 2 years (2020-2021) and guarantees "a level of quality and competitiveness in accordance with a demanding market", according to the City Council. "My sincere congratulations to all the public and private institutions that have managed to endorse this certificate," said the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, noting that "at this time we must emerge stronger than ever so that our tourist facilities and our range of services do not compete with other destinations."
"The economic activity generated by our main source of income will recover and, in the meantime, we must continue working and do our homework so that when we recover the optimal tourist influx," added Betancort, who believes that "in addition to achieving, on our own merits, that the experience and satisfaction of those who visit us, conquer the loyalty of tourists with Lanzarote again, we now need more than ever the financial commitment of the regional government, the State and Europe."

In this regard, Betancort recalls "the difficult situation facing the hotel industry in Costa Teguise, as the main tourist town in the municipality, as well as the commercial and business fabric, both in Teguise and the rest of the island of Lanzarote, which depends on the good health of the holiday market." "I know that they are stoically enduring this setback and that they are already prepared for a reopening or return to normality as soon as a climate of confidence is breathed that leads to re-establishing air connections with the main issuing countries, but in addition to private initiative, Lanzarote must demand greater investment in tourism development, start through a Canary Islands-State agreement, which injects items for Infrastructure Plans and that new European funds are also requested to continue growing as a leading tourist archipelago."
