The Teguise City Council has decided to support the strike called by the majority unions on March 8 "in favor of eliminating labor, economic and social discrimination against women." Specifically, UGT and CCOO have proposed a two-hour strike per shift for the day and have called on workers to support the scheduled stoppages in the different shifts.

From the City Council they point out that "the victims of gender violence of the past year, who were 49 women and 8 boys and girls; the fact that more than two million women are unemployed, which implies a progressive feminization of unemployment; and the salary differences in female contracts compared to those of men are some of the circumstances pointed out by the unions that make it necessary to support the strike."

The Consistory also points out that the trade union organizations have also denounced "the massive feminization of part-time contracts": "73.86% of them are performed by women (3 out of 4)" and "women mostly assume permits and leaves of absence for care, which limits their professional development and diminishes their rights and social benefits."

Stories of women in the Municipal Library

To commemorate International Women's Day, the Teguise Municipal Library has also programmed a unique and original event in which the narrator Isabel Cabrera will tell stories about women of all times. Under the title 'I toast to women', the event aims to become "a sensory journey and an intimate session where women and wine are linked, fused and mixed." "We will drink stories, listen to wine, taste words, all in one. And, of course, we will toast, both to Women and to Wine", Cabrera has advanced.

Stories and poetry will merge to pay tribute to women in this meeting that will take place at 8:00 p.m. this Thursday, with limited places and under reservation at 928 84 58 34.
