The Strike Committee of the municipal bus service of Arrecife has positively valued the offer of the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, who is willing to reverse the tender to outsource the bus service, if each driver increases their working day to 40 hours per week. "It is very good news, because jobs would be guaranteed and it would continue to be a public service," said the general secretary of CCOO on the island, Vicky Sande.

The news comes two weeks after the bus service workers began an indefinite strike against the outsourcing of the service, and they will decide whether or not to accept the proposal made by Reguera. In this way, as Sande explained, they will meet tonight, starting at 10 p.m., to make a decision. "The City Council has the power to make the service work and I think it's a good agreement," said Sande, who said she will continue "supporting the workers, whatever their decision."

The president of the Works Council, José Cabrera, has also positively valued Reguera's proposal, although, he said, it will be necessary to "analyze it carefully." "It is positive that the workers continue working, but we must see the pros and cons", he said.

Cabrera is aware that there would have to be restructurings in the lines and their routes to improve the service, but he says that it is already "the department of the City Council that works the most hours." "The workers will decide," he concluded.
