The socialist councilor, Olivia Cedrés, will urge the plenary session of the Yaiza City Council to propose to the Government of the Canary Islands the preparation of a study of the empty residential park in the municipality, in order to acquire housing for its public offer of official protection.

According to the PSC councilor from Lanzarote, "the economic crisis has meant that many newly built homes have not been able to be sold and remain unoccupied."

"The circumstance exists that in the municipality of Yaiza there is only one phase of officially protected housing, distributed among its owners many years ago. After that, there have never been public housing promotion policies, which would allow families with low incomes to access decent housing, under the same conditions as those who enjoy a high standard of living," he pointed out.

In the socialist's opinion, "the Minister of Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Inés Rojas, would thus have the possibility of investing the two million euros that appear every year in the budgets for Lanzarote and that she says she does not spend because the town councils do not cede land or do not collaborate."
