The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and head of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the president of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Wines of Lanzarote (CRDOP), Jorge Rodríguez, have signed a collaboration agreement that will strengthen the promotion of the destination, "increasing the visibility of Lanzarote's wineries", the island's wines and, indirectly, the landscape of La Geria.
This agreement will define a framework of work with clear benefits, both for the CRDO and for the island's tourism promotion body, which will program joint actions abroad, aimed at prescribers, in addition to segments of greater profitability for the destination. In addition, this agreement establishes the payment of an annual fee from CRDO to SPEL, which entitles wineries to have prominent places in the entity's promotion supports and instruments.
Betancort has expressed his satisfaction with this agreement, which "represents a significant step towards the consolidation of Lanzarote as a reference wine tourism destination. The synergy between our wineries and tourism promotion will allow for sustainable development and a more enriching offer for our visitors.”
For his part, Jorge Rodríguez, has pointed out that "collaboration with SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote is essential to strengthen the presence of our wines in the international market. This agreement will not only benefit our wineries, but will also enhance the value of the unique landscape of La Geria, a natural and cultural treasure of our island.”
In addition to the entities that make up the shareholding of SPEL as partners, agreements are being established with other types of actors in the destination, in a "cross-cutting approach that brings together the tourism value chain, pursuing a better experience for the visitor. This agreement is signed under this approach", he pointed out.
Another aspect "inherent to the agreement is the promotion of wine tourism, as a product line with a high spending capacity, through a working commission between both entities, which will be created to promote this type of tourism closely linked to the landscape essence of Lanzarote", concluded the Island Council.
